Two-Week Construction Outlook, November 23 – December 4, 2015 [link]
The Neponset River Greenway- Blue Hill Avenue to Central Avenue is the continuation of a bike path/walkway to complete a public access corridor along coastline, marsh and the riverbank from Castle Island in South Boston to the Neponset Valley Parkway in Hyde Park. Last spring the DCR received funding from Mass DOT to complete missing segments of the Neponset River Greenway. This segment of the Greenway consists of a +/- 1.3 mile multi-use recreational trail along the Neponset River extending from Blue Hill Avenue, Boston to Central Avenue, Milton. Construction is expected to be completed during the summer of 2016. The project will link two previously-completed segments of the Neponset River Greenway, providing pedestrian and bicyclists with a scenic, safe pathway from Neponset Valley Parkway in Hyde Park to Pope John Paul II Park in Dorchester. This segment includes demolition of existing fence, pavements and other site features; excavation and grading; and, installation of pavements, boardwalk, canopy walk, river bridge, connector, footbridges furnishings, planting, fencing, drainage improvements and signage. During construction, construction equipment will utilize entrances to the project site from Blue Hill Avenue, Meadowbank Avenue, and Central Avenue.
The following are activities you can expect to see over the next two weeks for the Neponset River Greenway- Blue Hill Avenue to Central Avenue:
Installation of boardwalk foundation at Mattapan Station is completed
Structural lumber framing for boardwalk to begin
Installation of River Bridge abutments
Installation of infiltration trench on south side of River
Construction Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7AM to 5 PM, workday not to exceed 8 hours.

Shots fired across Neponset River into Quincy apartment
By John R. Ellement, Boston Globe staff, November 18, 2015
Authorities are investigating a shooting incident Tuesday night that damaged a window of an apartment building in Quincy, left ballistic evidence at Pope John Paul II Park, and led to the recovery of a firearm in Dorchester’s Port Norfolk neighborhood.
A woman sitting in her apartment on Hancock Street reported hearing fireworks or gunshots outside her building, which overlooks the Neponset River, Quincy Police Captain John Dougan said. Arriving officers discovered that a bullet had smashed into the window of the unit, he said.
State troopers went to Pope John Paul II, the state park on the Dorchester side of the Neponset River, where 911 callers reported people under the Neponset Street Bridge were firing a weapon.
Troopers found multiple spent shell casings near the bridge, State Police said, adding they believe the shells are connected to the damage in Quincy.
Separately, Boston police went into the Port Norfolk neighborhood and recovered a firearm, Boston police said.
Law enforcement questioned some people, but the three police agencies said they had not arrested anyone.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
